Classification and Health Implications of Different Intermittent Fasting Regimens
摘要
In this chapter, we provide an overview of different fasting approaches, with a focus on intermittent fasting (IF) and highlight how Ramadan fasting differs from other IF regimens. Intermittent fasting involves alternating periods of eating and fasting, which may occur within a day or across specific days in a week. Intermittent fasting has demonstrated effects on metabolic health, weight regulation, and disease prevention. This chapter examines the scientific evidence supporting these benefits, focusing on glucose and insulin regulation, lipid profiles, blood pressure, inflammatory markers, oxidative stress, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and cancer. The chapter aims to provide a nuanced understanding of different fasting protocols and how fasting can be utilized to improve health outcomes.
