The Sustainable City
摘要
Policies to make Barcelona more sustainable in its consumption of energy and resources increasingly influenced new urban projects. They can be read in three major initiatives, to expand Barcelona airport, to renew the Camp Nou soccer stadium and to reduce air pollution and traffic congestion. All were guided by the new paradigm of sustainability to different degrees, although expressing sustainability through architectural and urbanistic semiotics is not straightforward. The most radical revision to the meaning of the city was through the locally developed concept of the superil·les, or superblocks, which aimed to moderate car traffic through the city. The political reactions to these projects parallels general disagreement about moving global cities towards net zero and reducing global warming.
