Acute Facial Swelling

In this chapter, all the common causes of acute facial swelling are described and the appropriate history and examination required to arrive at a presumptive diagnosis are listed. The differential diagnosis of acute facial swelling is provided in a tabular form. Several clinical pictures have been provided. The role of radiology in diagnosing the site and extent of underlying acute inflammatory disease has been described and illustrated with appropriate images. The systematic management of each of the common causes of acute facial swelling has been described in detail. Clinical videos of drainage of acute orbital abscess via the external and endoscopic routes as well as endoscopic drainage of acute frontal pyocele have been provided for this chapter.
