In contemporary global affairs, diaspora communities have emerged as key actors in shaping diplomatic, strategic and developmental relations between nations. Far beyond being cultural ambassadors, diasporas now actively contribute to the economic, social and political development of both their home and host countries. This dual role is evident in the successful engagement strategies of the Jewish and Chinese diasporas, among others, who have leveraged transnational networks to foster international cooperation and investment. Since the late twentieth century, diasporas—ranging from the Italian and Greek to the Filipino and South Korean—have increasingly influenced global development through remittances, skill transfer, philanthropy, advocacy and innovation. Using case studies, interviews and data analysis, this book explores how diasporic communities strengthen resilience and development across borders.
