Design with Nature explores the interrelationship between natural elements and architectural design, emphasizing eco-friendliness, sustainable materials, and allied construction methods such as Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA). Deriving from Biophilia, Salutogenesis, and human-nature connectivity theories, this part examines different modes and scopes of interactions and consequential impacts on both users and the environment from the perspectives of design and building life cycle operation. From these, the Book delves into selected pro-nature technological approaches, with cross-examination of integrating these applications into practical approaches, and summarizes lessons from selected cases for inspiration on the potentials of the summarized strategies. In particular, this part shall deal with the sustainable properties and roles of materials like wood, bamboo, and rammed earth in addition to the listed elements of nature. By examining these applications, this part will underscore the importance of incorporating natural elements and natural and manmade environments in order to achieve low carbon footprints by means of conscious, corresponding eco-design approaches and methodologies.
