Honeycomb sandwich structures (HSS) are widely used in aerospace for their excellent strength-to-weight ratio and stiffness. However, their fabrication is costly and complex. This paper presents a detailed procedure for making HSS more economical and easier to produce. It involves creating carbon fiber-reinforced composite (CFRP) facesheets using vacuum-assisted resin infusion process (RIP) with a specific fabric layup orientation. The honeycomb sandwich plates consist of Nomex® aramid honeycomb cores and CFRP facesheets bonded with 3MTM Scotch-WeldTM epoxy adhesive DP460 and cured in an autoclave. This approach offers a more affordable and efficient way to explore sandwich structures in research.
