Development of MAQMS: A Micro-scale Air Quality Monitoring System for Tagum City

Ambient air pollution is attributed to roughly 4.2 million deaths per year due to due to stroke, heart disease, lung cancer, and chronic respiratory diseases. This study aimed to construct a smarter and easier method in evaluating the air quality and presence of air pollutants concentration in the environment with the use of the internet of things (IoT). Cluster sampling was used to determine the different air quality levels from different locations within Tagum City. PMS5003 was used in detecting particulate matters in the air and MiCs 4514 for NO2 and CO detection, MQ-131 for O3 detection and Logoele sensor for SO2. The air quality level was relatively high in Tagum City Public Market compared to Tagum New City Hall. Furthermore, the air quality of the city varies in each location depending on its surroundings, duration of exposure, and location category with PM 2.5 as identified with high level in different locations. On this basis, having an accessible and hassle-free air quality monitoring system should be taken into consideration when determining the air pollution in the city.
