Environment protection is the act of preserving, conserving, and effectively managing flora and fauna to make sure that human activities don’t degrade the environment so that future generations receive it in their full entitlement. Sustainable development, which was earlier conceived and confined to inter-generational equity, expanded to mean economic growth that was economically viable, socially equitable, and environmentally sound. The COVID-19 outbreak nearly disrupted every area of human life and was bound to cause a slowdown in economic activities. To address economic concerns and bring post-covid economic activities at par with pre-covid, governments adopted policies with obvious disregard for its impact on the environment. In its wake, this is sure to have repercussions on global environmental prospects. Many industrial activities operation of which might have required prior permission through the process of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), were given a free hand in the name of ex-post-facto approval. This chapter tackles whether ex-post-facto approval can ever suffice for inherently dangerous activities, hence challenging the legitimacy and safety of such authorisations related to protecting the environment through administrative law. This chapter, therefore, goes on to check how logical reasoning works within administrative law in protecting the environment and evaluates if the principles of administrative law safeguard the interests of the environment. The chapter also discusses the applicability of the Deep Pocket Theory in environmental contexts. It concludes with the highly debated argument of whether economic growth and development should be given precedence over environmental protection and whether that view can be defended considering the future in the long term. These would be discussions aimed at ensuring subtle exploration of the complex relationships that exist between legal frameworks, economic demands, and environmental sustainability.
