Experimental Investigation on Physical Properties of 3D Printed Recycled ABS/Bamboo Composite

Increasing plastic pollution has created a vicious environment and is major concern for the globe. There are several methods adopted to recycle thermoplastics, but they require sophisticated equipment which makes the process more expensive. However, 3D printing can be a better source to recycle and reuse these plastics at cheapest processing cost. The aim of the paper is to develop a cost-effective composite filament for 3D printing application. Moreover, the effect of natural filler content in recycled 3D printing materials on the physical properties of 3D printed specimens was investigated. A composite recycled ABS filament reinforced with different weight proportion of bamboo powder (BP) was extruded using lab scale single screw extruder at optimum extrusion processing parameters. Furthermore, samples were 3D printed using FDM printer, and their physical properties were investigated. The experiment displays the utility of natural filler with recycled thermoplastic for sustainable part fabrication.
