Climate change poses a significant threat to Zimbabwe’s sustainable development trajectory. Rising temperatures, erratic rainfall patterns, and increasingly frequent extreme weather events disrupt livelihoods, ecosystems, and progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This paper explores this vulnerability and emphasizes the importance of integrating Sustainable Development (SD), Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) strategies. Key challenges in this integration include siloed policy frameworks, limited social equity considerations, and inadequate financing and capacity. It proposes solutions such innovative financing mechanisms, capacity building initiatives, and effective communication strategies for empowering communities. Furthermore, the paper explores the opportunities presented by SD, including the potential for green jobs, enhanced societal resilience, and greater social equity. Finally, it focuses on community participation in building long-term resilience and achieving the ambitious goals outlined in the SDGs. This paper offers a roadmap for Zimbabwe to navigate the complexities of climate change and build a more secure and sustainable future by integrating CCA, DRR, and SD.
