Proteinaceous Elicitors: Keys to Unlocking Plant Defense Mechanisms
摘要
Elicitor molecules derived from attenuated virulent strains or non-virulent pathogen strains can be utilized for the stimulation of plant defense response and initiate defense signaling pathways by involving stress hormones such as JA, SA, and ethylene-dependent/independent pathways. Beneficial rhizobacterial species produce many activated defense molecules, and several chemicals, like benzothiadiazole, also have the potential to activate signaling molecules for an active immune response against the pathogenic interactions. By considering all such evidence, numerous microbial cell components are being tested for efficient activation of plant defense response in plants, to overcome the adverse effect of pathogenic plant interactions and to sustain better crop production from the agricultural fields. For this, there is a requirement for broad knowledge about the elicitor’s quantitative and qualitative ability to induce the generalized and specific immune responses in the plant, limiting the application of elicitor molecules in agricultural farms. However, reports of studies indicate that the use of elicitors can induce resistance up to 85% in various crop.
