Accurate measurement plays a key role in our daily life. If we can measure correctly, we can save time and energy. For good quality work, accurate and precise pressure measurement is very important in all industries, including the defense and service sectors. Many types of pressure gauges are available at present; however, pressure transducers are one of the most used devices that give direct pressure readings in response to some mechanical deformation. At times, pressure transducers have sensitivity issues, non-linearity, high hysteresis loss and zero error which limits their use in highly precise industrial applications. However, with technological advances and recent developments in pressure metrology, pressure transducers in high-pressure ranges are increasingly being used in the defense and automobile sectors also. In the present study, we have investigated the behavior of an industrial high-pressure transducer over a period of four years. Our experiments have compared a strain gauge-type transducer against the national hydraulic pressure standard. This transducer converts pressure into mechanical strain on the strain-generating body, and the mechanical strain is converted into electrical output using strain gauges mounted on the elastic body. Such pressure transducers find application in high-pressure ranges and provide accurate and precise measurements. The work includes the evaluation of the performance characteristics of a hydraulic pressure transducer in the range of 800 MPa. After the 4-year study of the transducer, we have found it stable and accurate, with an uncertainty of less than 1%.

摘要
