Progress Towards the Measurement of Low Differential Pressure by Using Twin-Piston Pressure Balance in Hydraulic Mode

A system for precisely detecting the head differential pressure between a reference level and a measurement level at low line pressures has been devised. A new approach for characterizing test dial gauges is proposed, which employs a differential pressure standard in hydraulic mode within the pressure range of 0.025–0.25 MPa, with a maximum static pressure of 10 MPa. The dial gauge is characterized using a twin-pressure balance available at NPL in Delhi, India. Calibration of a dial gauge yields an approximate repeatability error of ~0.05% of readings, a maximum percentage error of 0.1–0.2% of full-scale and a calibration factor of approximately 1. The uncertainty in pressure will be calculated using a twin pressure balance with a coverage factor of k = 1. These characteristics will aid in the calibration performance of the twin piston pressure balance as well as in characterization of the dial gauge.
