Urban Design Case Study: Establishing a Creative Community from Ideation to Realization
摘要
This paper presents an Urban Design Case Study: Establishing a Creative Community from Ideation to Realization, through a creative collaboration among designers, artists, and craftsmen by designing neglected places into an urban attraction. A case study was done in “Thiya 14,” Tel Aviv, and the process and its output are presented. Our method places an urban designer in the role of an entrepreneur, from identifying the neglected places in a city through urban mapping and research, municipal bureaucracy, and artistic group collaborations, ending with weekly experiential activities and interactions with other neighborhoods. This method requires self-motivation for cooperation, an on/off communicative network among the participants, and a common goal to create an active and creative community. The motivation for this research was based on a major change in big cities. When Tel Aviv became highly rental expensive due to the massive construction of skyscrapers, small studios, and workshops remained undeveloped and neglected backyards. This complex cultural change arose an alternative initiative that would improve the situation of these “street cats,” with minimal needs of electricity, water, and access roads to the buildings. Main conclusion needs to examine ways to set human interactions. Based on interviews with people within the community, personal and professional collaborations were established: an industrial designer with an architect, a painter with an animator, a graphic designer with a decorator, etc. Our paper will present examples of social interactions and collaborative art pop-up. This research project is an excellent example of other street cat places in the city.
