Exploring the Entrepreneurial Mindset Among Indian Design Professionals
摘要
The entrepreneurial mindset is a multidimensional construct encompassing personality, cognitive, and behavioral attributes of an individual. It enables entrepreneurs to explore and exploit new opportunities for venture creation. However, research informs that entrepreneurial mindset is not limited only to entrepreneurs and is also possessed by other individuals. Designers, creative individuals known for their unique problem-solving abilities, also exhibit some entrepreneurial qualities. This study aims to understand the entrepreneurial mindset of designers and the role it plays in their profession. In-depth interviews of fifteen Indian design professionals were conducted using qualitative methodology. The respondents included both, designers who were affiliated with corporate organizations and those who were leading design services companies in India. The results were analyzed in relation to the established understanding of entrepreneurial mindset. The study reveals that designers exhibit many entrepreneurial attributes, but they also lack a few. These attributes notably assist designers and their teams in navigating their projects. While design education was acknowledged in being instrumental in instilling some aspects of the entrepreneurial mindset, participants highlighted the pivotal role of work experience in instilling entrepreneurial qualities. The insights generated from this study offer valuable guidance to design educators and design recruiters in shaping the pathways of future design professionals.
