Blood pressure variability refers to natural fluctuations in blood pressure levels that occur within an individual over time. These fluctuations can happen over short-term periods (beat-to-beat variability) or long-term periods (minute-to-minute, hour-to-hour or day-to day variability). Differential pulse arrival time involves measuring the time delay between the pulse arriving at two different locations on the body. Currently, the gold standard for non-invasive beat-to-beat blood pressure measurement, Finapres, has limited usage considering its exorbitant cost. Adequate correlation of beat-to-beat blood pressure with differential pulse arrival time and ready availability of wearable sensors has led to the development of inexpensive blood pressure variability monitor. The development consisting of sensors like AD8232, MAX30102, and earlobe probe is briefly described in this paper.
