This chapter introduces the GPenSIM approach for supervisory control. The approach, presented in Sect. 7.4, is unique as it proposes mapping the controller into processor files for implementation. Since Petri net models of a real-life plant are usually huge, adding a controller with many control places and their arcs to the transitions of the plant will make the resulting controlled system (the plant and the controller) huge and complicated. The GPenSIM approach, while keeping the plant as it is and mapping the controller into processor files, not only reduces the overall size of the controlled system but also allows coding the processors into embedded processors for real-life hardware control.
