In four key areas—smart infrastructure and urban resilience, resource efficiency and circular economy, climate change adaptation and mitigation, and social inclusion—this section examines how ICT promotes sustainability. By increasing resource efficiency, cutting waste, and building resilience against climate risks, smart city technologies—like data analytics, AI-driven energy grids, and IoT-enabled transportation—improve urban sustainability. ICT also facilitates climate action through AI-powered environmental monitoring, carbon footprint tracking, and data-driven decision-making. By optimizing resource use, cutting waste, and improving supply chain transparency, digital technologies also support a circular economy as environmental issues around the world worsen. ICT solutions also help close the digital divide by giving underserved communities fair access to long-term solutions, which encourages social inclusion and self-determination. ICT has the potential to promote sustainability, but in order to guarantee inclusive and responsible development, issues like e-waste and the digital divide must be addressed.
