The chapter gives a detailed analysis of the events that defined the innovations in the regulations of corporate governance, particularly in the emergent markets. Speaking of key corporate governance regulations, it is high time to grasp the main objectives and principles, which include the initiatives to exercise transparency, accountability, sufficient protection of shareholders’ rights, etc. Then, the chapter outlines the evolution of corporate governance regulations, sectioning the regulations based on their historical past and the factors that influenced them. Subsequently, the chapter expands on the prospects and issues of corporate governance regulations in emerging markets to embark on the development and implementation processes. The study examines how international standards such as the IFC's Corporate Governance Development Framework and the OECD Standards of Corporation Administration have influenced the reform agenda and provided a roadmap for implementing effective corporate governance frameworks. In the last section of the chapter, the authors discuss future prospects of corporate governance and reveal tendencies and potential threats that can influence the development of the corresponding regulations in emerging countries. This review looks at more critical ESG factors in today’s business environment and the emergence of new technologies, as well as a greater emphasis on sustainability and corporate social responsibilities and how they affect the structures and regulations of companies. Thus, this chapter has shed substantial light on the changes in corporate governance regulations in emerging markets while making recommendations that can benefit the policymakers, the regulators, and the industry players as well.

摘要
