摘要

Solid waste management poses a significant challenge globally, necessitating innovative approaches for effective treatment and resource recovery. Electro-fermentation emerges as a promising technology for sustainable solid waste management. This approach utilizes microbial communities to convert waste into valuable products while simultaneously achieving waste treatment. This chapter explores the application of electro-fermentation for treating various solid waste types and synthesizing high-value products such as biofuels, biochemicals, and biopolymers. The factors influencing waste treatment efficiency and product formation are discussed. Integration with other technologies and optimization strategies for enhancing the process are addressed. Challenges associated with large-scale implementation are identified, along with future research directions. Electro-fermentation presents a transformative approach for converting solid waste from a liability into a resource, promoting a circular bioeconomy and sustainable waste management practices.
