This chapter explores composite materials composed of chitin and chitosan whiskers and thermoplastic polymers. A comprehensive overview of various thermoplastic polymers used as matrix materials is provided, encompassing both petroleum-based and bio-based options. Specific polymers examined include poly(propylene), poly(ethylene), poly(propylene carbonate), poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL), poly(lactic acid), and other bio-thermoplastic polymers. Additionally, future directions and trends in the development of these biocomposite materials are discussed.
