Injury Surveillance in Cricket: Imperatives and Challenges
摘要
Injury rate tracking is referred to as injury surveillance and involves systematically collecting, analysing, interpreting and sharing data on sports-related injuries. It is the foundation for evidence-based injury prevention efforts by identifying injury patterns, risk factors and trends over time. Adhering to globally recognised injury-tracking standards is essential for both the elite and the developmental stages of cricket to allow for meaningful comparisons. The Translating Research into Injury Prevention Practice (TRIPP) model features injury surveillance as the crucial initial step for developing effective prevention strategies. Key benefits of surveillance systems include identifying injury trends, determining risk factors, developing targeted interventions, evaluating prevention effectiveness, facilitating research and enabling benchmarking. Challenges in implementation include personal factors, lack of resources and system-related issues like data entry burdens. Strategies to overcome these obstacles include user-friendly platforms, standardised injury definitions aligned with international consensus statements and systematic data collection processes. High-quality injury data is needed to inform evidence-based injury prevention measures tailored to the evolving demands of cricket across different formats, playing levels and roles.
