Linking TNHE to Geopolitics: Understanding the Broader Context
摘要
This chapter locates Transnational Higher Education (TNHE) within the broader context of geopolitics. The author discusses the impact of neoliberalism on the global expansion of higher education, and on the expansion of TNHE in particular. She then moves to the concept of academic hegemony and its relation to the globalisation of higher education. State developmentalism was then followed, which was used by China to internationalise its higher education and thus to enhance its global competitiveness. Further, the author analyses the policy development of TNHE in China in light of the concept of state developmentalism and the geographical distribution of TNHE within China as well its global connections. Finally, the chapter concludes with a concise summary, bringing together the key insights gained from the multifaceted exploration, setting the stage for the nuanced understanding of the geopolitical dimensions shaping TNHE in China.
