Edible Landscaping: Planning and Designing

Edible landscapes can be identified as sustainable components of urban planning which provide many ecological, economic, health, social, and cultural benefits. Edible landscaping also termed as foodscaping refers to the technique of incorporating edible plant species into ornamental landscapes in harmonious groupings. Advanced edible landscaping designs combine colorful vegetables, edible flowers, herbs, shrubs, fruit trees, medicinal plants, and berry bushes along with ornamental species. This chapter explains historical precedents of foodscaping, planning and designing of edible landscapes, water delivery system, use of smart and wise irrigation, choice of plant species for edible landscape, and attractive color schemes for edibles.
