In an era of increasing global population and environmental instability, improving vegetable crops is a critical agricultural priority. Vegetable crops are necessary for human nutrition and health because they include a wide range of essential nutrients. They are high in crucial vitamins like vitamins C, K, and B. Vegetables also contain high amounts of minerals including potassium, magnesium, and folate. CRISPR-based gene tweaking offers a possible avenue for improving vegetable crops by integrating accuracy and efficiency into the world of genome editing. Increased yield, disease resistance, climate resilience, and nutritional content are all important areas for improvement in genome editing through the CRISPR/Cas system. CRISPR technology is a revolutionary technique for precise gene editing. This groundbreaking tool is powered by the customized Cas9 protein, which is also known as molecular scissors due to its ability to cut DNA at particular spots. The importance of these breakthroughs stems from their ability to improve global food security, promote sustainable farming methods, and decrease malnutrition in populations. The objective of this chapter is to highlight the understanding, working, and role of CRISPR/Cas9 to improve the crucial traits in vegetables including yield, nutritional content, disease resistance, and environmental resilience. The role of genetic advancements, and their applications, and significance of CRISPR in agriculture have been discussed. In the end, the prospects of CRISPR in improving the traits of vegetables have also been detailed.
