With every passing year, population of the world and its associated food demand are increasing. To fulfill this food and nutritional demand, vegetables can play a vital role. Under the situation, vegetable production can be increased by bringing more area under cultivation or by increasing productivity of vegetable species. Among different biotic factors limiting vegetable production, weeds are considered as worse enemies. Weeds interfere with vegetables by competition for resources and by allelopathy, therefore, weeds should be controlled to avoid yield losses and fulfill the production challenges. There are several methods used to control or manage the weeds effectively; each method has its own repercussions. Preventive measures occupy a key position and can play a vital role if fully adopted. Whereas, non-chemical methods are also of prime significance to ensure the production of safe food free from toxic chemicals and their residual impact. For getting long-term and sustainable benefits, agronomic measures are the best options to follow, such as intercropping or rotation with allelopathic crops, managing proper planting geometry and cultural methods like stale seedbed preparation; all these can minimize the occurrence of weeds. Chemical method though provides good and efficient results but growers should adopt this as a last option. Lastly, the modern concept of integrated weed management (IWM) is an ideal way to deal with this ubiquitous enemy.
