This article attempts to show how the language of others is perceived by the hegemonic forces to be something scary. It is scary so long as it can spearhead a resistance, so long as it can cement a desire for independence among the populations that are linguistically and culturally dominated and who are desirous of restituting its place in society. In the mind of the colonizers, the reappropriation of the language and culture and the conquest of an administration and political autonomy go hand in hand. Any linguistic claim, whether it concerns administrative documents, media or teaching, is essentially seen as a desire for separatism. That is the reason why no imperial policy can exist without a language policy.

摘要
