The Western Xia Dynasty is a significant gap in the history of Chinese architecture as there is a lack of preserved architectural materials from this period even today. Although the excavation materials from the imperial mausoleum of Western Xia may appear insufficient, they are better than having none at all. With the available materials, we can discuss the royal architecture of Western Xia. Given the limited knowledge about this dynasty, I’d like to provide some background information on this topic first.
