In 581 AD, Yang Jian, an aristocrat of the Northern Zhou Dynasty, deposed Emperor Jing of Northern Zhou and established the Sui Dynasty. In 589 AD, the Sui troops marched south and conquered the Chen Dynasty, ending more than 300 years of division of China since the Three Kingdoms period. China was thus reunified under the Sui Dynasty. Historical events often exhibit striking similarities to one another. The Qin Dynasty unified China following the Spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period when the country was torn apart.
