Strengthening Pharmacovigilance in Africa: PhArmacoVigilance Africa (PAVIA)
摘要
PhArmacoVigilance Africa (PAVIA) is a project that was funded by the European Union under European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP2) programme (grant number CSA2016S-1627-PAVIA). This was originally planned as a 4-year project to be executed from March 2018 until February 2022 but was granted a 1-year no-cost extension (ending February 2023) because activities could not be carried out as planned due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The project aimed to improve the ability of health systems in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) to deliver new medicinal products and monitor their post-market safety in an effective way. PAVIA’s activities focused on strengthening collaboration between countries’ regulatory authorities responsible for pharmacovigilance (PV) and public health control programmes responsible for introduction of new drugs and vaccines for poverty-related infectious diseases. This is because new treatments for these diseases are introduced based on only limited safety data from clinical trials. The project aimed to ensure that introduction of these new or improved treatments is done in a unified manner and according to WHO’s guidance by collecting safety data and acting upon safety signals.
