Fintech’s Role in Developing Financial Services to Support the Transition to a Knowledge Economy: Evidence from MENA Countries

This chapter investigates the function of financial technology or fintech in developing financial services to support the trend towards a knowledge-based economy, with a focus on the Middle East with North Africa (MENA) countries. Fintech has emerged as a major force behind innovation and transformation within the financial field, offering additional opportunities for incorporating finance, economic growth, and efficiency. The transition to a knowledge-based economy requires sophisticated financial services that can support innovation, entrepreneurship, and human capital development. This chapter provides evidence from MENA countries to illustrate how fintech is contributing to the development of financial services and driving the shift towards a knowledge-based economy. Therefore, this chapter highlights the function of fintech in developing financial services, as well as focuses on fintech adoption in MENA countries. This chapter also discusses the knowledge economy dimensions, and the function of fintech in transition to a knowledge economy. As well as it highlights some of the challenges and opportunities that fintech presents for MENA countries and offers recommendations on how to harness the potential of fintech to support the transition to a knowledge economy.
