Sectoral System of Innovation in Islamic Fintech in the UAE’s Regulatory Sandbox
摘要
Financial Technology (fintech) has revolutionized the financial industry by leveraging technology to enhance services, streamline operations, and improve accessibility. This chapter explores the realm of Islamic fintech, a rapidly evolving sector within the expansive fintech landscape. Islamic fintech integrates financial innovation while following Shariah principles, aiming to provide technologically advanced, yet Shariah-compliant financial services. This chapter draws upon Malerba’s Sectoral System of Innovation (SSI) framework to examine the intricate dynamics of the Islamic fintech ecosystem, particularly within the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The SSI framework offers a holistic perspective by considering the interplay between various stakeholders, including organizations, government bodies, and knowledge networks. Key components of this analysis include identifying the pivotal players shaping Islamic fintech innovation, evaluating regulatory frameworks and institutional support systems, and assessing knowledge flows within the sector. By applying the SSI approach, this chapter transcends the conventional view of Islamic fintech as a niche market, shedding light on its complex interactions with internal and external factors. The chapter’s findings enhance our understanding of the Islamic fintech landscape by providing insights into its development, challenges, and future prospects. By adopting an SSI lens, policymakers, industry stakeholders, and researchers can navigate the complex nature of Islamic fintech innovation more effectively, promoting its growth and sustainability.
