Origin and Development of Copperplate Printing, Mono-printing and Color Printing
摘要
Subsequent to the evolution of woodblock printing, copperplate printing emerged rapidly in China. Despite the fact that both woodblock and copper-plate printing belong to mono-block printing, there exists a discernible divergence in the fabrication processes of these respective printing plates. The texts or images on a woodblock are carved with a knife, whereas those on a copper plate are created through casting. Copper plates are more durable and robust than woodblocks. The intricate designs, patterns, and texts on the copper plates remain intact through successive printing, and when not in use, the copper material can be recycled and re-melted to create new plates, a feature that woodblocks cannot replicate.
