This chapter examines the significant socioeconomic challenges faced by PwD in Asia and Africa. PwD in these regions experience disproportionately substantial poverty levels of poverty, scarce access to exceptional learning and healthcare, and insufficient social services. Systemic barriers, including physical inaccessibility, lack of trained personnel, societal stigma, and inadequate policy implementation, hinder their social inclusion and economic participation. The chapter explores the complex interplay between disability and poverty, highlighting the vicious cycle where poverty can lead to disability, and disability exacerbates poverty. It analyzes challenges in accessing education and quality services, workforce inclusion and economic empowerment, healthcare and rehabilitation, and strategies for breaking the link between disability and poverty. The chapter emphasizes the need for comprehensive policies and actions grounded in the principles of the UN CRPD to ensure the thorough partaking of PwDs in society.
