Leveraging Remote Sensing for Enhanced Forest Fire Prevention
摘要
The large extension of wooded areas in Italy is home to a variety of species which, over the millennia, have undergone alterations due to climate change. The Italian forestry heritage is one of the most significant in Europe, both for its vastness and for the diversity of species present. This heritage represents an immense resource for the economy, contributes to the balance of the territory and the conservation of biodiversity, without forgetting the beauty of the natural landscapes. However, every year, tens of thousands of hectares of forests are irreversibly destroyed due to forest fires. In this context, the tools provided by remote sensing emerge as the best candidates to face this challenge. Remote sensing technologies, based on the processing of data from satellite and airborne sensors, provide valuable information for the prevention and management of forest fires. For example, thematic maps allow you to identify sensitive areas with a greater risk of fire. This study will explore in detail the application of remote sensing in the prevention of forest fires in Italy, analyzing the methodologies, advantages, and challenges related to the use of these technologies. The goal is to develop more effective strategies for protecting our precious forest resources and safeguarding the environment.
