The past few decades have seen intense use of biobased materials for versatile applications in various haphazard catastrophes, one of which is oil spill treatment. Falling in the same list with exclusive properties and diverse applications is cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs). The employment of cellulose nanocrystals due to its potential ability of oil spill treatment paves way for the development of newer strategies and updating the present strategies. An urgent need for the implementation of these biobased materials, including cellulose nanocrystals, is very essential in the present scenario to tackle the drastic consequences of oil spill or leakage. These remedial measures and the persistent challenges in their implementation also need to be equally addressed. This chapter presents a brief understanding of cellulose nanocrystals as one of the leading biobased materials by exploring their morphology and unique properties. The treatment, present strategies, and remedial measures need to be strictly followed to delimitate the global phenomenon of oil spill leakage and its treatment is also equally addressed.
