This study examines the effectiveness of combining an interactive Java application and worksheet design on the comprehension and perception of Cistercian numerals among fifth-grade primary school pupils. Two groups, each comprising thirteen pupils, engaged with the application and utilized different versions of worksheets—coloured with auxiliary lines and black-and-white without. Both groups engaged with an interactive application allowed pupils to explore Cistercian numerals through bidirectional conversion and graphical manipulation. Results demonstrated that the group using coloured worksheets achieved a higher correctness rate (86%) compared to the black-and-white group (71%). Additionally, pupils in the coloured group exhibited more positive attitudes towards Cistercian numerals. These findings highlight the significance of integrating interactive tools and visual aids in educational materials to enhance learning outcomes and student engagement.
