This chapter provides the book’s overview in terms of social background, research gap, objectives, main arguments, summary of sections and individual chapters, methodology, and theoretical foundation. It attempts to establish a holistic, interdisciplinary, inductive, and synodal approach to lay Catholic social spirituality, in both the macro and micro dimensions, for Catholic healthcare workers’ quest for holiness in a commodified healthcare system. It tries to implement the Roman Catholic Church's (RCC) social doctrines on health care, options for the poor, and spirituality of social transformation. It proposes the incorporation of Ignatian spirituality, specifically the adoption of St. Ignatius of Loyola’s discernment of spirits and “Agere Contra” to enable lay Catholic healthcare workers to become contemplatives in action to protect the rights of the poor in public health according to Catholic social doctrines.
