Study on Bandwidth Tuning Metasurface with Polarization Conversion Characteristics

We have familiarized a bandwidth-controllable metasurface-based polarization converter. Unlike previously reported devices, the proposed device gives controllable broadband functionalities based on varactor diodes. The proposed unit cell is a two-layer structure, and an air spacer separates both layers. The first layer comprises varactor diodes embedded in a circular ring, whereas, for the second layer, a half-moon shape patch is used. The bandwidth is controlled from 37.7 to 55.1% of the proposed unit cell by controlling the reverse bias voltage of the varactor diodes. The structure exhibited 55.1% (7.26–12.78 GHz), 51.3% (7.44–12.58 GHz), and 37.7% (6.75–9.89 GHz) bandwidth at the reverse bias 0 V, −1.8 V, −15 V, respectively. The structure is primarily convenient for radar cross section (RCS) reduction, specifically for X-bands application.
