This chapter discusses the theory behind two concepts that play a central role in the chapters which follow. The first of these concepts is that of disability. This chapter considers some of the ways in which disability has been modelled, with the aim of selecting a model capable of application in the sphere of reproductive choice. The second concept discussed is that of reproductive liberty. In a similar vein to theories of disability, a selection of approaches to reproductive liberty will be discussed. One theory will be selected as the basis for discussions around the limits of reproductive choice in the context of embryo testing.

摘要

This chapter discusses the theory behind two concepts that play a central role in the chapters which follow. The first of these concepts is that of disability. This chapter considers some of the ways in which disability has been modelled, with the aim of selecting a model capable of application in the sphere of reproductive choice. The second concept discussed is that of reproductive liberty. In a similar vein to theories of disability, a selection of approaches to reproductive liberty will be discussed. One theory will be selected as the basis for discussions around the limits of reproductive choice in the context of embryo testing.
