Assessing Transportation Sustainability Using an Indicator-Based Method: A Case of Delhi, India
摘要
In October 2016, the High-Level Advisory Group on Sustainable Transportation, appointed by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, presented the report “Mobilizing Sustainable Transport for Development”. This report underscored the critical necessity for national and local governments to establish thorough monitoring and evaluation frameworks for sustainable transportation (UN-HLAG 2016). The role of transportation in the socio-economic advancement of urban areas is of utmost importance and is essential for maintaining sustainability. The following section is dedicated to the estimation of transport sustainability through the utilization of an indicator framework, with a focus on selecting indicators that are in line with local circumstances, available data, and measurability. Our analysis has unveiled a Transport Sustainability Index (TSI) value of 47.26 for the city of Delhi, indicating its current sustainability standing. The TSI serves as a valuable tool for policymakers, scholars, and stakeholders, aiding in making well-informed decisions. With the dearth of sustainable development across nations, the TSI factor paves way for driving transformative initiatives aimed at ultimately for the betterment of the transportation systems in India and holistic development of the country.
