Traditional forms of school-based civic education are no longer enough to prepare for disruption in future. Citizenship education must now become education that continues throughout life. This chapter argues that the concept of lifelong learning is not appropriate for this task. Life education, as discussed earlier in this book, is proposed as the new way to think about citizenship education throughout life. There will be challenges throughout the lifespan and these are discussed as well as the need for action in both preparing for disruptions and confronting them directly. The concept of ‘action with moral intention’ is introduced as the kind of action needed in future since it will guide the values behind confrontation to support the needs of the most vulnerable in society.

摘要
