摘要
There is little doubt that the future requires its citizens to see themselves as part of a community with common values and common interests. The polarization that has been such a common feature of twenty-first-century life cannot be allowed to dominate the future. In this chapter, multiple ways of bringing societies together will be examined in order to identify the commonalities that can encourage cohesion and collaboration, and bring societies together. This includes an examination of the Sustainable Development Goals as the most recent attempt to provide common goals for humanity and diversity and equity and inclusion values that have sought to create a fairer and more just societies. Issues of engaging in society will also be discussed with a focus on both political and social engagement. Finally, the importance of developing a sense of belonging and its relation to social identities and social capital will be discussed.
