At present, SS321 is extensively used in numerous applications from Heavy Engineering to Petroleum Industry, Chemical Industry, Nuclear sector, and many more because of their high anti corrosive property and capability to effectively work under extremely high temperature The weld quality of laser welded SS321 has increased the interest of industries. In current work, butt joint of SS321 was fabricated using laser welding to examine the microstructural and mechanical properties of the joint. Tensile strength of laser welded SS321 was about 324 MPa and elongation was 30% less than the base metal. The toughness of welded joint was about 66 J which was about 60% of the base metal. The grain structure of the welded joint observed finer than the base metal. Refinement of grains further increased the hardness of the fusion zone. The fractography revealed that mode of tensile failure was ductile in nature for both base metal and welded joint.

摘要
