Additive manufacturing (AM) is a process where materials are deposited layer by layer to create an object. This technology has the potential to revolutionize manufacturing due to its advantages, including design flexibility, shape optimization, reduced lead times, adaptability to market fluctuations, and lower initial investment. Despite its benefits, the widespread adoption of AM for direct production of end products is still limited. India has significant potential for integrating AM technologies into its manufacturing sector. According to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), AM could contribute an additional US$ 1 billion to India’s GDP by 2027. This study aims to develop an Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) model to identify and analyze the critical success factors (CSFs) affecting the adoption of AM in Indian manufacturing industries. The high success rate of 75.2% underscores the importance of prioritizing and strengthening the CSFs identified in the study. Factors such as top management commitment, technological infrastructure, and human resource management are pivotal in ensuring a successful AM implementation.
