Surface Coatings as a Potential Approach to Combat Solid Particle Erosion (SPE): A Review

The coal-operated thermal power plants produce the majority of electric power, run by low-rank fuel. These operations of boilers with high-temperature combustion of coal result in the presence of ash and abrasive materials engendering the formation of salt films. Recently, industrial components that are exposed to an effective atmosphere have faced a vital and noteworthy problem—Solid Particle Erosion—this phenomenon is dependent on some factors such as erodent size, shape, erodent material, and material properties of components. In order to solve this according to the research, the development of erodent-resistant materials and protection techniques can be utilized to counter the rate of erosion. Such surface coating methods like laser cladding comparatively help to accomplish efficient metallurgical bonding with low porosity. To collate, this research paper summarizes the text related to laser cladding emerging technology which can present solutions for surface wear with emphasis on wear and solid particle erosion problems (SPE). Moreover, the below text targets the other researchers, inquiring about solid particle erosion prevention.
