This paper introduces 14 hands-on programs at an advanced data science course of “Social Information Systems/Machine Learning,” offered at Niigata University of International and Information Studies, as efforts to promote AI and data science education. Recognizing the importance of education in mathematics, data science, and AI, the Japanese government has been promoting these areas in a longitudinal and integrated manner in recent years. Given that half of the participants are humanities students, the program is designed to offer practical learning opportunities to a broad student base without requiring in-depth programming skills. It allows students to grasp the fundamentals and applications of AI through the creation of machine learning models using Python in the free Google Colaboratory environment. Covering a range of applications from simple neural networks to the latest large language models, the program aims to deepen understanding of AI and cultivate the ability among students to use AI responsibly in society, mitigating fear while preventing overreliancery .
