Chinese Legal Tradition
摘要
Since ancient times, China has developed a distinctive Chinese legal system within the global legal framework, nurturing rich and profound legal culture. The ancient legal classics, as the carrier of Chinese legal wisdom, provide a significant avenue for exploring Chinese legal culture. Western awareness of Chinese legal culture dates back to the late sixteenth century. The translation of traditional Chinese legal classics began in 1810 with the English translation of Ta Tsing Leu Lee by Sir George Thomas Staunton. Up to now, the foreign translation of legal classics has gone through a history of more than 200 years. To actively carry out the translation and research of legal classics is helpful to grasp the initiative of the translation of legal classics, reduce cultural misunderstandings and misinterpretations of foreign translators in the translation process, and faithfully preserve the genuine essence of Chinese legal classics.
