This chapter defines the concept of silage culture for the first time. Silage culture includes cultural connotations related to silage production and utilization, such as raw materials, preparation methods, storage equipment, fermented feed, livestock raising, and management. Silage has a long history and culture with the development of human beings. The origins of silage can be traced back to 3000 BC, and it has played an extremely important role in domesticating wild animals and raising livestock. Silage farming continues to develop with the advancement of animal husbandry and changes in people’s living needs. This chapter focuses on the characteristics of silage culture, as well as the origin and long cultural history of silage.
