Mode II Fatigue Crack Growth on Pre-cracked Silicon Nitride Ball Under Cyclic Pressure Loads Part 2: Transition Crack Angle from Mode II to Mode I
摘要
Since the fatigue crack mechanisms of ceramics are different metals from those of ceramics, many researchers discussed crack extension behaviour in ceramics. However, a few existing research on silicon nitride balls focused on the influence of the extrinsic mechanism behind the crack tip under cyclic loadings. In particular, crack growth behaviours in mode II under cyclic loadings have remained unclear. Thus, we investigated the change in crack growth behaviours behind the crack tip on silicon nitride balls. In the present work, transition crack angles from mode II to mode I were evaluated in terms of the change of crack angle of specific observation areas. The purpose of this study is to reveal the change in crack growth behaviours from mode II to mode I on the ball specimen surface. We concluded that cyclic compressive loadings did not give a change in transitions from mode II to mode I of surface crack growth of the silicon nitride ball.
